What to Do in Baltimore, MD on Halloween
Baltimore, MD is a complex city, full of character, culture, history, and hope. What better place to spend Halloween than the home of Edgar Allen Poe as you listen for the beating heart in the walls?
If you happen to be lucky enough to visit this haunted city in the Halloween season, here are some great options for how to spend your time (other than trick or treating).
The Great Halloween Lantern Parade and Festival
The Great Halloween Lantern Parade and Festival is one of Baltimore's more unique Halloween traditions.
The first Festival was held in 1995 by the Fells Point Creative Alliance and was used as a hybrid gallery and performance art space.
Over time the festival has evolved to include:
- Live music
- Parade
- Children activities
- Galleries
- Art Performances
- Local food vendors
- Hayrides
- Dancers
- Arts and Crafts Booths
- Beer Garden
The 2018 Parade and Festival will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 12:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
Baltimore Ghost Tours
Since Baltimore is a city steeped in history, folklore, and crisis, it's not all that surprising that currently there are a number of local ghost tours available, in almost all of the nine regions of the city.
Most of these tours add special tours or elements to their tours in the month leading up to Halloween or have special events on the night of Halloween.
If you're a fan of drinking there are even a few tours that pair ghost stories with trips to the pub.
Baltimore Ghost Tours began in 2001 and is still going strong with six different tours available to choose from.

Westminster Burying Ground & Catacombs
The Westminster Burying Ground and Catacombs has a yearly tradition of Halloween tours. Edgar Allen Poe is buried here, as well as a large number of other famous individuals. The event includes a tour of the catacombs and the grounds, ' creepy'. music performed by Count Dracula, performances of many pieces of Poe's work, and food and games. Tickets range from $3-$5.
Groupon regularly has great deals on the local tours in the Baltimore area.
The Maryland Zoo ZooBoo!
ZooBoo is the Maryland Zoo's annual Halloween event. It's a great opportunity to see the zoo in a new way with plenty of activities like games, prizes, contests, live entertainment and FREE trick-or-treating!
There are also two costume contests throughout the day and face painting if you forgot your costume. They will also have a special enrichment schedule throughout the day where the keepers get to show off their knowledge and skill with the animals while teaching others about the fabulous furry and feathered friends.
ZooBoo is not an additional cost, normal zoo admissions covers the event, but some activities may require an additional cost.
Maryland Science Center Halloween Events
One of the best Halloween events in the city is easily the annual Maryland Science Center Halloween party.
The 2018 event has six stages (including the iMAX) with over 20 groups performing.
There will be a costume contest, plenty of booze, great music, a packed crowd, and a rooftop party.
The event costs $35 - $75.
