20 (Unique) Gift Ideas for People with No Hobbies
Folks are hard to shop for. The types of people who are constantly giving, or too busy to have hobbies can be the hardest to shop for. My dad spent his whole life working to support the family, and now it’s so hard to buy him Christmas or Birthday gifts.
So now I keep a list of interesting and unique gifts, that I can use for any occasion. Here’s 20 of my gift ideas for you to share.
Try these options the next time you need to buy a gift for someone that's hard to shop for:
1. An obnoxious fountain pen
Yah know, the kind that sits on a desk and is never used, but people love. That kind. It’s great because they come in so many prices points. If you want a handmade family heirloom, grab one. If you just need a budget gift to give to your boss or family member that you don’t know that well, try this modern black matte fountain pen for $16.99. It looks fancy, but still cost you under $20.
2. Expensive Booze
If you know for a fact that they are not sober, then go for an expensive bottle of booze. Fit it close enough to the personality type, and you can get a pass on giving any real thought at all to gift giving for this occasion.
This is a great gift if you're traveling as well. On your vacation, pick up a couple of bottles of local booze for gift giving. At the very least, it makes for a good conversation piece. "Oh yeah, my brother in law picked up that bottle of vodka for us in Russia."
Do make sure that they aren’t purposefully sober if you’re giving this gift though.
3. Surprise returned or lost Amazon packages
Not gonna lie, TikTok taught me more in the last year than I'd care to admit. One of those things is the ability to purchase lost Amazon packages at a major discount.

Lost and undelivered Amazon packages are sold in bulk for a discounted rate. There are many secondary businesses that have set up warehouses to sell these packages to the general public.
These packages are sold blind, where the item is still wrapped and is unknown. Grab a box of these surprise items, and let your gift recipient open them to see what they get. It's the luck of the draw, so it may be junk or it could be a new console.
4. Let them Try Their Hand at Growing Stuff
if buying gifts for someone with no hobbies is tough, then help them start a new hobby. Grab them the start to a mini countertop garden.
Or try this Bonsai kit for $34. It has everything they need to start their journey to bonsai mastery.
5. Hungry Harvest or Other Food Subscription Box
Everyone eats, so gift them some food.
Hungry Harvest is a great subscription option. They don’t deliver full meals, instead they focus on saving imperfect produce, and send boxes of in season fruits and vegetables. Through their service, they save tons of food from going to waste every year. Use this link to sign up and get $10 off your first order.
6. Gaming Mood Light
Along with skinny jeans and the middle part, overhead lighting is out. Instead, there's been a cultural movement towards softer light.
Everyone needs a little mood lighting in their life, so try the pictured pink gaming mood light for $39.99. It has customizable color options and gives a soft glow to the room.
If you'd prefer something a little less cute, try this modern simplistic lighting option.
7. Countertop Ice Machine
If you’re shopping for your lady, skip the heart shaped jewelry. One of the most talked about gifts this year has been ice machines. Does that sound crazy to you? Just accept the fact that ice machines are the modern gift alternative to a Keurig or a stand mixer.
These ice machines tend to be expensive, but everyone who has one loves it. They have rave reviews, especially for folks who enjoy chewing on ice.
This adorable mint green ice maker is $107.99.
8. Towel Warmer
Regardless of how many hobbies a person has, everyone needs a little luxury in their life. Bring some luxury into your peron's life by getting them this portable towel warmer. It's a little pricey at $149, but it fits up to two large bath sheets and includes an automatic timer and other functions.
Seriously, have you ever experienced a warm towel straight out of the shower, especially on a winter morning?
9. Amazon Halo Fitness Tracker
Amazon released their version of a fitness tracker. I've used my Halo for a year now and love it.
It's your standard fitness tracker, tracking your steps, height and weight, heartbeat, and more.
I'm most excited to see all of the new companies that they've began to integrate with, especially mental health apps.
The newest Halo model is only $59.99, making it the perfect budget option for folks looking to pick up a fitness tracker.
10. Headphones
Looking for a gift for someone who enjoys quiet time, or do you need a little more quiet from the gift recipient? Try a pair of noise cnceling headphones, like these Beats 3 headphones for $149.99.
11. Books
Gifting a book says that you think the person is intelligent enough to read complete sentences, and I think that's pretty nice.
Try one of these popular options as a gift:
- Subtle art of not giving a fuck
- The Psychology of Money: Timeless Lessons on Wealth, Greed, and Happiness
- Billy Summer (by Stephen King)
- Where the Crawdads Sing
If they like to stay on the minimalist side of things, and prefer to skip the physical books, then try a Kindle Unlimited membership. (Bonus: This works as a great last minute gift for the day of, but feels more thought out than a gift card.)
12. Audible membership
Not sure they are actually literate? Maybe you're looking for a gift for someone with a long commute, or someone who loves podcasts.
It doesn't matter why, but many people prefer audio books in our busy society.
Try this other last minute gift option, an Audible Plus membership.
13. Amazon Personal Shopper
Hobbies, shmobbies.
Ignore the person's interests, and let them know that their closet is getting a little out of date by gifting them a personal shopper. Normally this would be a complicated gift, but you can easily gift this as a last minute gift with an Amazon gift card. They'll still think that you put in a ton of thought into this gift.
You can read more about the Amazon Personal Shopper program here.
The sign up process feels kinda like a Buzzfeed quiz, but in a good way.
14. Board games
Board games have made a cultural revival, and they're everywhere. Especially board games for adults. It's fine if you're looking for a gift for someone that's hard to buy for. This is a gift that comes with personal time when you play the game with them.
Try one of these board games as a gift:
- Taco vs Burrito (2-4 players)
- 7 Wonders (3-7 players)
- Exploding Kittens (2-5 players)
15. Solar powered charger
The end of the world may be near, and I know that I would appreciate the ability to play Candy Crush on my phone after the fall of society.
This rechargeable solar powered charging battery is a perfect gift for anyone obsessed with their phone, or anyone who camps or hikes. It's also a great gift for any preppers in your life.
A small miniature doll house kit makes a fun gift for someone with no hobbies. |
16. DIY Kit
Maybe they just don't have a hobby, yet.
Grab them a DIY kit with the hopes that it will spark a new hobby, so the next time you need to buy them a gift, it's easier.
Here are a few options:
- Hot sauce making kit
- Mini doll house kit
- BeaverCraft Wood Carving Kit
- Make your own Mochi ice cream kit
- Candle making kit
17. Galileo thermometer
What does a Galileo thermometer do? I have no idea.
But, I remember seeing these as a child and being enraptured.
Grab this Galileo thermometer for under $50, and it will make any study or den seem a little more like an alchemists' eccentric lair.
If you figure out how these work, could you let me know?
18. Spotify membership
Is someone in your life still listening to ads on Spotify? Fix that for them. If they're using Spotify as their main music streaming service, then they deserve to focus without ads.
This gift works for country music lovers, metal heads, or true crime podcast bingers. Regardless what they enjoy listening to, spotify (probably) has it covered.
Spotify Premium is $9.99/month for a single account. (Family accounts are a better value)

19. Warm Them Up
I love gifts for people who are always cold. My best friend has never been warm in her life, so I'm always on the lookout for cute gift ideas that will warm her up.
While a standard heated blanket, warming cup, or hand warmers are all options, I'd rather gift a waffle blanket.
20. Electric grill
Maybe you're looking for a gift for someone with no hobbies, or maybe your dad is just hard to shop for. Grab a gift that will benefit you, like this indoor electric grill. Now the weather is not an excuse anymore for why grilled items are off the menu.
If Dad wanted non-grilling related items for a gift, then he should have picked up a hobby, right?
