Grocery Time

So, it was grocery time once again in our house. We try to go once a week, and I try to make sure that 75% of what I buy is fresh fruits and vegetables. This week I bought food for 5 meals, because this weekend we plan to go to a local Dutch market to shop for fresh, local, organic meat and vegetables.

Here's the menu for the week:
Pizza (our weekly tradition is frozen pizza on grocery shopping nights)
Pierogi and oven baked green beans
Pasta Carbonara
Tortilla Espanol and Roasted Potatoes with Mushrooms (Both from Meatless)
Oaxacan Tacos with Sweet Potato Chips
and at some point in time Irish Soda Bread

And here was the original grocery list:

  • Pizzas
  • olive oil (lots)
  • 1 1/2 lbs russet potatoes
  • 2 large baking potatoes
  • 2 lbs fingerling potatoes (I substituted baby red potatoes)
  • 10 oz goat cheese
  • 8 oz unsalted butter
  • 1 lbs fresh green beans
  • eggs
  • pancetta
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • paprika
  • parsley
  • fresh thyme
  • 8 oz hearty mushrooms
  • fresh sage
  • 6 oz gouda
  • almond milk
  • baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 lbs flank steak
  • 1 bellpepper
  • sandwich meat

We bought all of this, plus the distractions my husband puts in the cart, a diaper pail, and baby wipes for $131.92.
